“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: ‘What are you doing for others?'” – Rev. Dr. Martin LutherKing Jr.
January 20, 2014 is the date of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Federal Holiday. In 1994 Congress passed legislation to make MLK day a National Day of Service, thus giving everyone the opportunity to start their year off right! Our vision at International Book Project is to promote literacy, education, and global friendships through our efforts to send books around the world. With that being said, we encourage you to start your year off right by helping propel our vision into community action.
MLK Day of Service represents the idea that it only takes the action of one person to achieve a dream. Our founder, Harriet Van Meter believed in our cause whole heartedly and, through her, International Book Project has been able to change the lives of countless people in the developing world. On this day of service we want to remind you to help strengthen communities, promote active reading among youth, and empower others who do not have the tools to further self development.
Whether you do this by volunteering at our facility, organizing a book drive, running an advocacy campaign, or simply donating to our cause, we encourage you to answer life’s most persistent and urgent question: “What are you doing for others?”.
