Crawford Middle School has not been able to meet its yearly progress goals. Many of the students enter school three or more years below grade level in their reading skills. It has ranked last in district test scores. Crawford Middle School is right here in Lexington. A teacher took the initiative to contact the International Book Project and tell us their story and, together, we developed a plan to change the tide at Crawford and foster a love of learning among these kids. We believe it is never too late to get books in the hands of students eager to learn.
In October, the International Book Project partnered with Crawford Middle School for the school’s Fall Festival and used our donated books to stock a booth for a Book Giveaway. We were able to provide Crawford Middle School with nearly 400 books! As the International Book Project continues to partner with local schools, like Crawford, we hope to see an increase in reading test scores in the area. In a place where books are a rare commodity, we are hopeful that this event has and will continue to encourage and foster reading among students and their families.
